Jacqueline Fernandez is a Sri Lankan actress who hails from Manama, Bahrain and was raised in a multi-ethnic family. Jacqueline's father Elroy Fernandez comes of Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is a Malaysian. She has two brothers and one older sister. Due to unrest in Lanka, her parents relocated to Bahrain in the early 1980s. Schooling was finished within Bahrain and she received the Scholarship to the University of Sydney. There she was awarded the Media and Communications degree. Her passion for the languages and culture led her to join the Berlitz language school where she improved on French as well as Arabic while learning Spanish. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 was crown in March 2006; she also took part in Miss Universe 2006 As a result of winning Miss Sri Lanka in 2006 Padukone started her career in the world of television. She was the host of the program Lanka Business Report which focused on Sri Lankan Business. Padukone's father is badminton-player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has had a childhood in Copenhagen as well as Bangalore. As a teenager, she played in national level badminton tournaments. She later resigned from the sport to become an artist. Padukone hails from Mangalore and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her family tree is rooted in Padukone village located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District in the state of Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend who retired in the late 1980s. The mother of her daughter, a travel agency, also hails from this village.
